Art in the Park October 23, 2010

I painted this two hour portrait study demo of our model Olivia
in oils on canvas.

Last Saturday I hosted a painting and drawing event at Griffith Park for the Society of Illustrators. I had a costume model pose under one of the large trees near the carousel and we all enjoyed the morning working in our individual styles. Here some pictures I shot of the event.

The San Dimas Festival of Arts on April 23-25 Presented the 34th Annual National Western Art Exhibition & Sale at the Walker House. This year I had ten paintings for sale in the gallery. My painting "Bristle Cone Pine" was nominated for Best Oil Painting.

Keith with friend and model Bill Cameron. I met Bill

at the painting workshop that we go to on Tuesdays.
I thought that he would make a great cowboy model
and talked him into modeling for me. I had recently
bought a puppy for my wife Sandi and wanted to have
Bill hold our dog in his arms. I shot over 60 photo's
to get what I needed and Bill did a great job of putting
up with a squirming little puppy.

This year I sold limited Edition Prints of the Walker House. I did this painting last years for the "Slow Draw". It is a Plein Air painting that was done in three hours. The original painting was purchased by David Bratt who is the Festival event coordinator. If you are interested in buying one of the prints they will be for sale year round in the Historical Society Museum on the second floor of the Walker House.  The edition is of 100 signed and numbered prints.  They are $100.00 each and $250.00 framed  You can also contact me by e-mail and I would be happy to ship you prints of the Walker House.  kbatchlr@roadrunner.com

I did the 45 minute "Quick Draw " on Saturday at the San Dimas Art Festival. This year I did a drawing of a buffalo head. It was done on canson paper with charcoal and Conti a Paris pencils. Its a very stressful affair as people are crowded around you. Some people are asking you questions and the auctioneer is trying to interview you as well. When the 45 minutes are up you put a frame on it and then it goes up for auction. This year the wining bid for my art went to David Gillies one of the judges of the show.

On the opening day of the San Dimas Western Art Show the Daily Bulletin and a few other loca
l news papers ran this article about me and my family.

On March 26th I was one of 60 artists and sculptors invited to be in the Cattlemen's Western Art Show in Paso Robles California. It was a great experience. The people where very nice and I plan on being there again next year.

The Paso Robles Press News Paper ran this article on me.
Reporter Hayely Thomas asked me how I got the reference
photo's for my buffalo painting " Meal Time" and she must
     of liked the story.
